Tips for Complying with OSHA Regulations

Tips for Complying with OSHA RegulationsAs an employer, one of the most important aspects of ensuring the safety of your workers is having a robust Champaign IL Risk Management program. The best way to do this is by making sure to follow the rules and regulations set forth by the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). While OSHA rules are extensive and can seem a bit confusing at times, here are some tips to help you comply.

Make sure that all employees are properly trained. There should be training on proper use of tools and equipment, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lists of all chemicals used in the workplace and how to properly handle them, ergonomics, and what to do to recover from an incident. Review OSHA rules and regulations with employees annually to help keep them updated on any regulation changes.

Once you have properly trained all employees you need to make sure that any hazards that arise get addressed quickly. Any issue that an employee may report of equipment malfunction or failure needs to be dealt with to prevent accidents or injuries from occurring.

Make sure you keep track of all serious workplace accidents and injuries. These records are important in helping to evaluate workplace safety, understanding hazards and helping to address injury awareness in training.

While inspections can happen for any company at random, there is an increased likelihood of inspection if there is a complaint called in about your workplace safety standards. Be aware of when inspections occur and understand what OSHA is looking for during these inspections. Things like exposed electrical wiring, lack of PPE, poor hazardous material control or poor record keeping are commonly cited issues.

OSHA provides training materials and record keeping documents to help you to ensure workplace safety for your employees.
